Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12, as a vegetarian, this is one supplement I do need to include daily. We hear a lot about it, but why is it so important? B12 in Miami is so important for nerve cell function and red blood cell formation. It is naturally found only in animal products so most vegans and vegetarians are at risk of deficiency. It is estimated that nearly 15% of adults are deficient in this important vitamin!

You can also be deficient if you have conditions such as pernicious anemia, where something called "intrinsic factor" (which B12 needs to be absorbed in our bodies) is not produced.

How you know you are deficient in B12 in Miami

Some of the symptoms of Vitamin B12 deficiency are...

  • You feel fatigued
  • You feel weakness
  • You have numbness or tingling in extremities,
  • Problems with balance
  • Depression, moodiness, or cognitive decline
  • Brain and nerve damage (extreme cases)

The RDA recommendations for healthy adults is 2.4 micrograms (more if you are pregnant or nursing). Vegans and vegetarians need about 1,000 micrograms. Most supplements contain 500-5000 micrograms because intrinsic factor helps absorb about half a 1-microgram, so that way you absorb more. I highly recommend under-the-tongue supplements.
